Historical Context

Thousands of settlers came to Canada in search for free land to start a new life. Many people heard about this land by pamphlets, newspaper ads, public lectures, and free trips to promote settlers to come to Canada. These posters showed Canada as being a very fertile land, but did not show settlers how harsh the winters could often be. The posters made thousands of settlers move to Canada in search of great land and a chance to start over.

Truth in Advertising

These posters lead many people to Canada with the hope of having another chance to start over. The posters showed that Canada was a very fertile place and reviled it of having abundance of crop.  This indeed made many settlers move to Canada in search of free land.

Although the posters made Canada seem like a place to have an easy life and have good land, the sad reality is that many people did not know of the harsh winters that Canada had. Many settlers did not expect the winters to be that harsh and therefor were not prepared. It is not fair to them for not knowing this. People therefor should be able to know fulling what they are getting themselves into.
